Sweet Potato Frites

I am a big fan of breakfast, especially savory breakfast items.

The man and I usually do brunch at least one day on the weekend – one day out, one day cooking in. One day we were making home fries and for a healthier variety, decided to go for sweet potatoes home fries (instead of a starchier russet potato) and they were delicious, melt-in-your-mouth style.

We call them sweet potato frites because you can make them for breakfast, as a side dish with an entree or just eat them on your own as a snack. These sweet potato frites have a kick to them, too!

Sweet Potato Frites

You Will Need:

  • Sweet Potatoes (2-3, diced into one-inch cubes)
  • Garlic (3-4 cloves, minced)
  • 1 Onion (diced)
  • Paprika 2 Tsp.
  • Cayenne 1 Tsp.
  • Olive oil 1/4 cup
  • Salt and Pepper
  • One large pan (non-stick)


Dice the sweet potatoes into one-inch cubes. While you’re dicing, be sure to start heating your large pan with olive oil over medium heat.

Put the chopped sweet potatoes in the pan, coating them in the olive oil. Season with the paprika, cayenne, salt and pepper. Cook the potatoes for five minutes. Depending on the level of spice you want, you can up the amount of cayenne. The sweetness of the potatoes make a nice blend of spicy and sweet.

Chop the onion and dice the garlic. Then toss them over the sweet potatoes.

Place a lid on the sweet potatoes (to soften) and cook for approximately 10-12 minutes.

After 10-12 minutes, turn the heat up to high heat and take the top off. This final step will crisp and darken the potatoes (~5 minutes).

Serve hot!

I’m dying over here. These look amazing. My fave way to make sweet potatoes is to cut them into chunks, cover them in orange juice, honey and chili powder, salt and pepper and bake them about 30 minutes.
I’m SO making your frites very soon. 🙂

I know, the pictures do NOT do justice.

I’ve never considered orange juice, honey and chili powder but I think that sounds amazing. Let me know how these turn out 😉
