Nestled in a North Boulder strip mall, sits La Choza. What once was a sought after trailer / stand-alone taco stand that was parked on North Broadway, now has made its way into a brick and mortar location at 4457 Broadway Street, as of August this year.
Their long lines, and desirable, no frills Mexican street food has the lines forming outside this tacqueria. But it might still be secret enough, that the grungy, minimal interior keeps only the purists. Might is the key word.
Inside, there are five tables, with one table outside under an umbrella with two green, plastic chairs to sit in as you gaze out at the gravel parking lot and North Broadway construction.
The kitchen is small; you can see them working away as you order and pay at the counter. The ceilings are low, the interior minimal, and the menu features dishes that are all under $8, meaning you can walk away with a full belly for under $10.
For breakfast, my personal favorite, just $3.00 gets you a diesel sized breakfast burrito stuffed with the likes of spicy eggs, onion, potatoes, cheese, and perfectly spiced and seasoned meat like chorizo and beef. You can also find common favorites like tostados, fajitas, quesadilla, tacos, tortas and homemade horchata. But no idea why you would want to venture to the hamburgers, stick to the tried and true favorites, alongside their house made salsas.
Besides 100% Mexicano, I would venture to say La Choza has the best, most authentic Mexican in Boulder. Just don’t tell anyone else. Shhh.
